What storms do to roofs

Damage We Repair

Mohawk Valley roofs see summer thunderstorms, occasional hail, strong winds, and long, heavy winters. Each leaves its own kind of damage.

Wind

Lifted or torn membrane at the edges and corners, loose edge metal and coping, displaced flashing, and debris punctures.

Hail

Dented metal panels and rooftop units, cracked or bruised membranes, and damaged vents, skylights, and gutters.

Ice dams

Ice that builds up at the edges and drains, forces meltwater under flashing and laps, and pries seams apart as it freezes.

Snow load

Heavy, drifted snow that stresses the deck and flashings, and damage from shovels and snow removal equipment.

Not every problem found after a storm was caused by it. If what we see is ordinary wear, we'll tell you that plainly and treat it as a commercial roof repair, because an honest report protects you with your insurer.

For your records

Photo Documentation for Your Insurance Claim

We can document roof damage for your insurance claim. Coverage decisions are made by your insurer.

After a storm, clear records make every conversation easier, whether it's with your insurer, your property owner, or your board. Our storm inspections are documented with that in mind.

  • Dated photos of each damaged area, with close-ups and wider shots that show where it is on the roof.
  • Notes on what was damaged, how, and what it affects.
  • A written proposal with the repair scope, which you can share with your insurer.

We don't decide what your policy covers, and we don't negotiate claims on your behalf. We give you an accurate record of the roof's condition and a clear plan to fix it.

Step by step

Temporary Protection and Permanent Repair

Storm damage is handled in two stages: stop more water from getting in, then fix the roof properly.

When water is coming in, the first job is to limit the damage. Temporary measures buy time until the weather allows a permanent repair, which matters in a Mohawk Valley winter, when some repairs have to wait for warmer, drier days.

We respond to storm calls within 24 to 48 hours, during business hours. We don't run a 24-hour emergency service.

  1. Call us

Tell us what happened, where water is showing up, and what it is reaching.

  2. Inspect and document

We inspect the roof and photograph the damage before anything is changed.

  3. Protect the building

Where needed, openings are temporarily sealed or covered to keep more water out.

  4. Propose the permanent repair

You get a written proposal within 24 to 72 hours of the inspection, including whether repair, restoration, or replacement fits the damage.

  5. Make the permanent repair

Damaged materials are replaced and the roof is made watertight, then photographed again for your records.

Questions

Storm Damage FAQs

How do I know if my roof has hail damage?

Hail damage on a flat roof is hard to see from the ground and sometimes even from the roof. Look for dents in metal roof panels, rooftop units, and gutters, and for dents or chips in vents and skylights. On membranes, hail can bruise or crack the surface without an obvious hole. If there was hail big enough to dent cars in the parking lot, it's worth having the roof inspected.

Will my insurance pay for storm damage to my roof?

That is up to your insurer and your policy. What we can do is inspect the roof, document what we find with photos and notes, and give you a written proposal for the repair that you can share with your insurer.

Can heavy snow damage a flat roof?

Yes. Snow and ice add a lot of weight, especially where snow drifts against parapets, taller walls, and rooftop units. Signs of trouble include ceiling cracks, doors inside the building that suddenly stick, sagging, and new leaks after a thaw. If you see sagging or hear creaking, keep people out of the area below and call a structural professional as well as a roofer.

How soon should I have the roof checked after a storm?

As soon as you can, and before the next round of weather. Damage that lets in a little water now can soak insulation over the following weeks. Many insurance policies also have time limits for reporting damage, so check yours. We respond to storm calls within 24 to 48 hours, during business hours.
